CONSIDER VEHICLE USERS

-

I just finished reading a story regarding the bike lane (Keeping it one-way a little longer, Oct. 13). I want to thank Coun. Kevin Ramsay for speaking up for the other half of Charlottetown citizens who can’t wait for the lane to be opened for vehicles during the winter.

For a lot of us, it is really all about whether we have any major snowstorms during the months of November to May that is the big concern. Barring no probable storms before the end of December, I personally could agree with allowing the walking there until the end of December. Others may feel differently.

The thought of not having vehicle access to Victoria Park Roadway to many citizens is very difficult on the mindset just like it would be now if walkers could not walk on the boardwalk during the winter.

City council will never know how much opposition there will be to the closure of the bike lane to vehicles in the winter until the Victoria Park Roadway is closed due to heavy snow and difficult to plow as in the past (Brighton Road to the cannons). Some people don’t speak up until they have lost something near and dear to their hearts. Then they scream! I hope city council will keep in mind my letter of last year on other reasons to keep the bike lane open to vehicles in the winter for example – emergencies, etc.

City council: thank you in advance for any consideration to the vehicle users, some who have no other choice but to use their vehicles to see the beauty of Victoria Park and our harbour.
