Mary Dorothy Clarice (Carey) McCormick (nee Kelly), born 4 February 1932 in Kinkora, PEI, deceased Saturday 14 November 15, 2020 at age 88. Predecease­d by parents Everett Kelly, Faustina Kelly (nee McIvor), sister Geraldine, brothers Justin and Preston. Survived by brothers Russell, Mount Royal, PQ , Donald, Ottawa, ON and Blair, Beaverton, ON. Predecease­d by her son Thomas (Tommy), Ottawa ON 1980. Survived by her husband Thomas (Tom) McCormick, Stanhope, PEI, son Michael and Daughter-in-law Paula, Sooke, BC, daughter Deborah (Debi), Charlottet­own, PEI, grandchild­ren Melissa McCormick, Vancouver, BC, twins Drew and Devin, Victoria BC as well as nieces Patricia MacKay, Charlottet­own, PE, Colleen Westaway, Stratford, PE and Stephanie Wagner, Guelph, ON and many other relatives. Carey was a stay at home Mom while her children were young and cared for Tommy for almost 20 years as he had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. After Tom’s death Carey returned to school at Algonquin College in Ottawa and subsequent­ly was employed by the federal government at Energy Mines and Resources in Ottawa as a systems analyst for ten years. She then returned to PEI to reside at Stanhope. A great mother, strong willed and feisty and a great and loving partner for Tom for 68 years, she was a seamstress extraordin­aire and made the best bread and jam. She had a beautiful smile which lit up the room. She will be sorely missed by all. Carey entered Beach Grove Home in May of 2019 after a year of excellent home care at Stanhope and received the same excellent care and cheerful friendship at Beach Grove Home Sunset Unit. We the family are eternally grateful to all who cared for her. In all her health problems Carey never lost her sweet smile nor her determined spirit. As per Carey,s wishes cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19 restrictio­ns a memorial Celebratio­n of Life will take place at a later date when it is safe to do so. Memorial donations may be made to Beach Grove Home.
