The funeral for Edith (Smith) McMahon, wife of the late Pope McMahon, was held on Thursday, December 31, 2020 from the Lawless Funeral Home, Kinkora to St. Pius X Church, Charlottetown, where funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:00 a.m by Fr. Maurice Praught. The Gospel was proclaimed and the homily delivered by Fr. Praught. Morissa Ings, accompanied by Valerie MacKenzie, sang Here I am Lord, In the Garden, Gentle Woman and Lord of the Dance. Pallbearers were Mom’s grandchildren Beth McMahon, Andrea Boyle, Tommy Gallant, William Callbeck, Patrick Callbeck, Matthew Smith and Robbie McMahon. Readings were given by Sandra Gallant and Georgie Smith, with the prayers of the faithful read by Debbie Trainor. Charlottetown Fire Department provided an honor guard at the funeral and we thank them for this sign of respect to the family. The family thanks Jerry McCabe and Dennis Gerard for providing the livestream of the funeral so relatives who could not be present were able to watch the funeral. In the death announcement, we omitted Mom’s sister-in-law Alberta (Carmen-deceased) Smith and we apologize for this error. Following the funeral, Mom was laid to rest at St. Malachy’s Cemetery in Kinkora. The family thanks Donnie Lawless of the Lawless Funeral Home for his professional service and to Fr. Maurice Praught for his kind words about Mom. He captured her exactly and it warmed our hearts to hear those words of remembrance. To all the relatives, friends and co-workers who reached out to us in our time of loss, we thank you. May you be richly rewarded for your acts of kindness.
