The death occurred peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, on the anniversar­y of his late wife’s death (Bernadette) on Friday, January 8, 2021, of Ralph McQuaid of South Melville, age 81 years. Ralph was born October 12, 1939 in South Melville, the son of the late Emmett and Mary (nee Malone) McQuaid. Beloved husband of Marie Gallant-McQuaid (nee Doiron). Loving father of Wayne (Eric), Hampton; Louanne, Rocky Point; and Kate (Alma), Dartmouth, N.S. Also survived by sisters Eleanor Tierney (Gerald-deceased), Charlottet­own; Kay McQuaid, South Melville; brothers-in-law Gavin Toole, South Melville, Emeric Walsh (Pauline), Charlottet­own; Leo Walsh (Betty), Hope River; Earl Walsh (Gloria), North Rustico; sisters-in-law Shirley McCarthy (Leo), Marjorie Crawford (Alfred - deceased), Charlottet­own; Kathleen MacDonald (Lorne - deceased), Charlottet­own; Marion Myers (Gordon), Hope River; Rose Hennessey (Andy), Charlottet­own, Josie Chaisson (Jerome), New Perth. He will be lovingly remembered by step-children Victor Gallant (Richard), Ottawa, Barb Knox (Ron), Ottawa, Karl Gallant (Karen), Ottawa; step-grandchild­ren, many nieces and nephews; and special friend Marlene Adams. Predecease­d by his loving wife, Bernadette McQuaid (nee Walsh), infant son Louis, sister Elaine Toole and her twin brother, John McQuaid and brothers and sisters in-law Austin McQuaid (Teresa) and Mary Walsh (Vernon); niece, Deanna Simpson; and nephew Kevin Toole. Ralph was a life-long dairy farmer and always active in the community through minor hockey, various church groups and organizer of the Kelly’s Cross Ceilidhs. Ralph had a passion for music and spent his retirement years providing entertainm­ent with the “Mixed Nuts” band at various nursing homes across the Island. Resting at the Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Due to covid health restrictio­ns, a private (immediate family and invitation only) visitation will be held. The funeral (by invitation only) will be held at St, Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Cornwall. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined.
