Gliding into skating season
Several outdoor rinks in Charlottetown ready for use
Eight of 12 outdoor rinks in Charlottetown are open for public use.
As of Jan. 25, the following rinks are welcoming skaters: Founders Hall Greenspace (Lower Prince Street); Gordie Griffin Multi-Sport Facility (199 Patterson Dr.); Orlebar Park (Orlebar Street); Mulberry Park (Mulberry Avenue); Sandlewood (Wisteria Avenue); Spring Park (Spring Park Road); Highfield Park (Highfield Avenue); Rosemount Park (Rosemount Drive)
Four other outdoor rinks remain under construction.
The public is encouraged to check on the status of the rinks by visiting the city’s website at Charlottetown.ca and selecting the Skating and Skiing page in the Recreation & Leisure drop down menu.
The outdoor rinks webpage is updated daily Monday through Friday.
The ideal temperature for the outdoor rinks is about - 6 C, and they will be maintained as long as weather conditions continue to be suitable.
All participants are required to wear CSA approved helmets while on the outdoor rinks.
The city wants to remind the public to continue to follow the Chief Public Health Office’s recommendations, which include physical distancing, frequent handwashing and hand sanitizing, as well as respecting the limits on public gatherings.
