The Jennifer Doyle Stable was not to be denied as her trainees closed out the season in style Sunday afternoon at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Mantario won the final dash of the meet at the capital oval as David Dowling steered the son of Sportswriter to a 1:57.4 victory over Adkins Hanover (Ambyr Campbell) and Sports Royalty (Gilles Barrieau). Doyle, who currently has a solid grip on the Charlottetown training standings, owns her trainee with Danny Birt of Earnscliffe.

Fellow Doyle trainee Chocolate Swirl went all the way in the $2,850 preferred pace with an identical 1:57.4 score for owners Doyle and Birt with Jason Hughes at the lines. Bugsy Maguire (Barrieau) rallied up to finish second while Pictonian Storm (Gordie Hennessey) completed the triactor ticket.

Hughes was a frequent visitor to the historic winner’s circle with four driving wins on the day. Hughes teamed up with trainer Darryl MacLean to win the Race 7 fillies and mares open pace for a $2,800 purse in 1:57.1. Hughes also won with Jetta Flys (2:00.2) for trainer Stephen Quinn and with Warrawee Ulla (1:59.2) from his own stable.

Babbling won his fifth straight race to remain undefeated since coming to Eastern Canada. Barrieau supplied the steer of the Mike Dowling trainee as he was unheeded in 1:59.2.

Kenny Arsenault had a training and driving double with Play The Board (2:06.3) and Wunder Shadow (2:04.1).

Live racing will return on Saturday, May 1, for the start of the 2021 summer racing season.
