A Britney Spears documentary shares the spotlight with this year’s awards season in Hollywood

Get ready for the virtual red carpets because awards season is upon us.

The Golden Globes nominees have been announced, but there’s plenty of other TV to tune into if you’re not down with celebrity speeches.

Whether celebrities are having babies, documentaries made about them or receiving awards, I’ve got you covered.

GETTING REAL

Lately, I’ve been all about the documentaries and reality shows. Framing Britney Spears is a documentary that covers the intense public scrutiny and hounding media attention Britney Spears had, leading to a breakdown and her father taking legal control of her finances.

The documentary follows the #FreeBritney campaign on social media and the current legal proceedings where Britney is trying to regain control of her life.

You can watch Framing Britney Spears on FX or Hulu. Back in 2007, when Britney attacked a paparazzi with an umbrella, I really thought she was crazy. But now that I’m 33 and about to celebrate one year in a pandemic, it seems like an underreaction.

Murder on Middle Beach is a four-episode limited series on HBO/Crave. Young filmmaker Madison Hamburg investigates his own mother’s murder. Over the course of eight years, Madison interviews various family members and people potentially connected to the crime, and winds up uncovering deep secrets like money laundering and a potentially deadly pyramid scheme.

Having someone so close to the murder do the investigating gives us an intimacy not found in other true crime series, but it also makes it way less gory – Madison kept it all about the facts instead of sensationalizing the crime.

Bling Empire is a Netflix reality show that follows an insanely rich group of Asian American friends. The group is so wealthy that one shut down Rodeo Drive for a Chinese New Year dinner, and there are fights about a Louis Vuitton necklace. I’m not usually someone who likes to watch rich people from the discomfort of my 700-squarefoot condo, but this show also has a former Power Ranger, a search for biological parents and story lines centered on infertility.

Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous nomination, three women were nominated for best director and The Crown and Schitt’s Creek were celebrated throughout multiple categories.

Streaming sites took over with nominations aplenty for The Flight Attendant (HBO/Crave), Normal People (Hulu), The Queen’s Gambit (Netflix) and more. Noticeably snubbed were I May Destroy You (HBO/Crave), Zendaya’s role in the movie Malcolm & Marie and Steven Yeun’s role in the movie Minari.

Despite my best work showcasing my beagle sleeping in various positions on my Instagram story, I did not receive any nominations.

Former Dance Moms star turned YouTube sensation JoJo Siwa came out and reveals she has a supportive, amazing girlfriend.

Jenny Slate gave birth to a baby girl, Ida.

Kylie Jenner ignored COVID-19 restrictions to throw her daughter a lavish birthday party.

Singer Halsey announced she is pregnant.

Kelly Rowland gave birth to her second baby, Noah Jon.
