Pownal wins twice

Mid-Isle, Central also pick up victories in under-18 action

The Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils won a pair of weekend games in the P.E.I. Under-18 AAA Hockey League.

With the victories, Pownal (13-8-4) leapfrogge­d the Sherwood Drug Mart Central Attack (12-6-5) for first place in the five-team circuit. The two teams played Monday in Pownal. Results were unavailabl­e at press time.

Here’s a recap of the weekend action.

RED DEVILS 7 REGALS 1

Holden Bradley and Sam Worth each had a goal and three assists to lead Pownal to a 7-1 win over the Western Regals Saturday at the Jacques Cartier Memorial Arena in Alberton.

Seth MacLeod scored twice while Sam Parsons, Nathan Campbell and Gavin Mason rounded out the scoring. Lance Kennedy had two helpers while singles went to Aidan Arsenault, Tristan Lea, Hunter MacLeod and Parsons.

Sam Hackett from Marshall Gallant and Michael McRae replied for Western (9-9-5).

Ethan Smith earned the win while Turner Ellis took the loss. Pownal, which held 1-0 and 5-1 period leads, was 1-for-10 on the power play while Western was 1-for-6.

RED DEVILS 6 MATRIX 3

Bradley and Worth each had two goals and an assist while Seth MacLeod had a goal and two helpers Friday as Pownal doubled the Robin’s Mid-Isle Matrix 6-3 at the APM Centre in Cornwall.

Mason rounded out the scoring for the visitors. Carson Lund and Cameron Walsh each had two assists while singles went to Hunter MacLeod, Drew MacPhee and Parsons.

Myles Grant, Carson MacDougall and Braeden Tremere responded with goals for the home side. Matthew MacDonald had two assists while Landon Hardy added one.

Caleb Drake recorded the win while Ty Arsenault was tagged with the loss.

Pownal, which held 4-1 and 4-2 period leads, went 2-for-4 on the power play while MidIsle was 1-for-5. Mid-Isle is 10-10-4.

MATRIX 4 KINGS 0

Jayden Murphy scored twice Sunday and Noah Visser was perfect as the Matrix blanked the Kings County Kings 4-0.

Hardy and Reese Wyand also scored in the victory at the Eastern Kings Sportsplex in Souris. MacDougall set up three goals while Jacob Doucette, Ryder Howatt, Matthew Mills, Will Mix and Gage Taylor each chipped in one assist.

Landon Patton took the loss for the Kings (4-15-4).

After a scoreless first period, Mid-Isle took a 2-0 lead to the third.

ATTACK 4 KINGS 2

Keegan Callaghan had two goals and an assist as the Attack doubled the Kings 4-2 Friday in Souris.

Nik Reeves added a goal and an assist in the win while Ben Watts rounded out the scoring. Noah Dow, Darian Jameson and Tyler MacKinnon each added an assist.

Gabe Hartlen had a goal and an assist for the Kings while Taylor Maguire also scored. Alec Higginboth­am, Denver MacDonald and Craig Steadman each chipped in a helper.

Keegan Duffy recorded the win while Drew Chapman was tagged with the loss.

After a scoreless first period, Central took a 2-1 lead to the third. The Attack went 1-for-4 on the power play and killed all three of the Kings’ chances with the man advantage.
