Islanders Cormier, Laaouan receive QMJHL nod

-

The Charlottetown Islanders top pair of defencemen are on this week’s Videotron Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team of the week.

Lukas Cormier and Noah Laaouan each had a goal and four assists and were a plus-seven in three games – all wins as the Islanders completed the regular season atop the 18-team league.

They are joined on the team of the week by forwards Mathieu Desgagnes of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, Peter Reynolds and Ryan Francis of the Saint John Sea Dogs and Moncton Wildcats rookie goalie Vincent Filion.

Filion, drafted sixth overall by Val-d’Or in 2020, was part of the return in the deal that sent Cornwall resident Jordan Spence to the Foreurs in January.

Francis was the player of the week after scoring three goals and setting up five more in two games.

There were no games in Quebec last week.
