COVID-19 protocols relegate three Phillies, two more coaches

-

The Philadelphia Phillies placed left-handers Jose Alvarado and Matt Moore and infielder Ronald Torreyes on the injured list due to COVID-19 protocols prior to the team’s Monday night game against the visiting San Francisco Giants.

The Phillies also lost first base coach Paco Figueroa and assistant coach Bobby Meacham due to COVID19 protocols. That leaves Philadelphia without five coaches as the pair join hitting coach Joe Dillon, third base coach Dusty Wathan and bullpen coach Dave Lundquist, who all left the team last week.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley manager Gary Jones served as third base coach on Monday, and infield coach Juan Castro filled in as first base coach.

The Phillies recalled lefthanders Cristopher Sanchez and Damon Jones and infielder Nick Maton from the alternate training site to fill the roster openings.

Maton made his major league debut at shortstop with starter Didi Gregorius sidelined with a right elbow injury. Jones and Sanchez haven’t appeared in a big-league game.
