AT A GLANCE

-

• The Ocean Startup Project (OSP) is a two-year, pan-Atlantic program focused on inspiring students, researchers and innovators to build and grow start-ups in Canada. OSP was the first innovation ecosystem project announced by Canada’s Ocean Supercluster.

• In 2020, the OSP led the Ocean Startup Challenge, awarding 14 prizes of $25,000 and business support to start-ups and scale-ups to develop technologies that have large market potential.

• Currently, the organization is seeking pitches for its second Startup Challenge, which will award $1.4 million this year and is open to entrepreneurs and innovators from rural, Indigenous and urban communities across Canada and internationally, who have innovative solutions to ocean industry problems.

• One of the funding prizes to be awarded this year will be a $200,000 grant for an idea that has a higher financial risk but has the greatest potential to improve the ocean environment.

• The submission deadline is June and winners will be announced in September.
