OPPORTUNITIES IN WIND POWER
Regarding the article Turbine turbulence (April 12), I have my personal opinion.
It is quite a pity that this expansion project may be denied in the coming days. A 30-MW wind farm is not big, however it is important for today's P.E.I. economic situation, not only for new job opportunities, but also for future industry development considerations.
I landed at P.E.I. about six months ago from Shanghai, China, and frankly speaking, P.E.I. is lacking high-grade manufacturing projects. High-level manufacturing can bring people good salaries and continue stable job opportunities. Obviously, the windmill project is one such project.
I came from China and I saw how the government supports windmill projects and how fast and successfully this industry has grown in the last 10 years. P.E.I. should not give up on it. I would say there would be a solution somewhere if people really sat down together and discussed this opportunity in a frank and honest way. Even in the worst case, if no deal or compromise can be reached finally, the management should consider offshore windmills in P.E.I. as an alternative solution.
