Blue Fins, Red Mudd post perfect tournament­s

Coach Sandy Gallant and her Evangeline Blue Fins pulled off a one-point overtime win against the West Prince Islanders (WPI) Red recently to maintain their perfect season.

They went 6-0 at the third West Division tournament of the Volleyball P.E.I. girls 14-and-under season, pushing their record to 18-0 on the season.

WPI Gold (4-2) continues to challenge the Blue Fins by finishing second for the third consecutiv­e tournament. WPI Red (2-4) and the host Summerside Suns (0-6) placed third and fourth, respective­ly.

In West Division triple ball, head coach Stacy MacWilliam­s led her two squads, WPI Gold (5-1) and WPI Black (51), to first- and second-place finishes, respective­ly. The WPI Gold team has been consistent­ly finishing in top spot this season. WPI White (2-4) edged out the WPI Red team (0-6) to finish third.

In the East Division, Red Mudd teams performed perfectly in their home gym.

Coach Philip Woodworth recharged his Red Mudd (6-0) team to capture first place followed by the Birchwood Cobra Gold (4-2), Birchwood Cobras Black (2-4) and the Souris Spartans (0-6).

In triple ball, coaches Emily Murray and Melissa MacKinnon fired up their crew to go on to post a (6-0) record. The Queen Charlotte Coyotes (3-3) joined the league this week and quickly grabbed second place ahead of the Gulf Shore Sharks (2-4) and Birchwood Cobras White (1-5).
