Everyone is a winner

P.E.I. junior teams split doublehead­ers

There were four different winners in recent P.E.I. Junior Baseball League play.

The Summerside Toombs and MacDougall CPA Chevys (7-1) and Capital District Islanders (5-6), as well as Western (4-4) and the Three Rivers Clippers (3-5) split their respective doublehead­ers.

Following is a recap of the 22-and-under league's games.

SUMMERSIDE 6 CAPITAL DISTRICT 2

The Islanders fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 6-2 loss in the opener.

The Chevys scored five times in the second inning, keyed by two Islanders’ errors, a walk by Ben MacDougall and a two-run single by Jayden Mclean.

MacDougall was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and two runs over seven innings.

He struck out seven. Jaron Rashad took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out seven in six innings.

Parker Gallant went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Chevys. Logan MacDougall stole two bases, as the team picked up five during the game.

Garrett Hebert, Patrick Young and Nolan Ryan all had hits for the Islanders.

CAPITAL DISTRICT 10 SUMMERSIDE 3

A seven-run, fourth-inning outburst helped the Islanders rout the Chevys, as Summerside dropped its first game of the season.

Noah Duckworth, Ryan, Young and Hebert triggered the big inning with RBIs.

Chevys got on the board in the first inning on a two-run single off the bat of Duncan Picketts.

The Islanders took the lead in the third inning with two runs. Gallant induced Young to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored and Hebert lined out, driving in another.

Eric Anderson was the winning pitcher, surrenderi­ng one run on four hits over 6 ⅔ innings.

He struck out three. Dawson McCormack took the loss, allowing seven runs in on three hits in three innings.

He struck out three. Gallant started the game for the Chevys. He lasted three innings, allowing three runs on two hits while striking out four.

Hebert, Dylan Cameron, Young, Ryan and Nick Profit all had a hit to lead the Islanders at the plate.

WESTERN 6 THREE RIVERS 3

Three Rivers watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 6-3 loss in Game 1 of their doublehead­er.

Western scored twice in the first inning, thanks to RBI singles by Chandler DesRoches and Colin Gaudette.

Michael MacRae earned the win, allowing two runs and two hits over five innings while striking out six.

Chase Gaudette threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Isaac Compton took the loss, allowing six runs on 11 hits over six innings. He struck out six.

Gaudette, DesRoches and Dawson Sellick all had multiple hits for Western.

Jack MacKenzie, Tyson McInnis, Malcolm Crann and Compton each had a hit to lead Three Rivers.

THREE RIVERS 8 WESTERN 7

The second game was tied 7-7 with Three Rivers batting in the bottom of the sixth when an error allowed the gamewinnin­g run to score.

Western’s big inning was the fourth, with four runs sparked by singles by Sellick and Michael MacRae.

Three Rivers scored four runs in the second inning. Their rally was led by balls put in play by Jake MacLaren and McInnis, as well as a single by Isaac MacNeill, and a sacrifice fly by Jack MacKenzie.

MacKenzie, Three Rivers’ ace, allowed six runs on nine hits over four innings. He struck out four.

Connor Ellsworth allowed eight runs on four hits over six innings for Western. He struck out eight.

Malcolm Crann, MacNeill, Compton and MacLaren all had a hit for Three Rivers, which also had three players steal at least two bases. Compton led the way with three.

Sellick with three hits, Gaudette and MacRae each racked up multiple hits for Western.
