Fiddlers’ Sons at the Katherine Hughes Memorial Hall at the BIS

The ceilidh on July 9, 8 p.m., in the Katherine Hughes Memorial Hall in the Irish Cultural Centre in Charlottet­own will feature the award-winning P.E.I. folk music group, Fiddlers’ Sons.

There will be a 50-50 draw at the air-conditione­d, wheelchair accessible and licensed hall, which is located at 582 North River Rd. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 at the door with children 12 and under, $5. A portion of the proceeds will go towards supporting the society’s benevolent activities. The hall can accommodat­e 65 audience members. Tickets are at the door – first come, first serve. For informatio­n, call 902-314-8840. All COVID-19 protocols are being observed at the hall.

Fiddlers’ Sons features Eddy Quinn, John B. Webster, and Courtney Hogan-Chandler. For 22 of their 24 years together, the group has been playing its brand of grassroots music to packed houses at the Benevolent Irish Society, as well as many other venues. In 2017, the band marked 20 years in the music business with the release of a compilatio­n album of its most requested songs. Fiddlers' Sons: The Best of Twenty Years contains 22 selections written and performed by the band members that explore Island life and its people.

Quinn, the lead vocalist who also plays guitar and bodhran, has released two solo albums and has received four Music P.E.I. Awards.

Webster, the group’s lead guitarist and backup vocalist, was interested in music from an early age. He has done quite a lot of writing on the five CD’s Fiddlers' Sons have released over the years.

Besides performing and recording with the group, Hogan-Chandler, who is also known as the fiddling veterinari­an, has released two CDs of her own.

She also recently released a collaborat­ion album with Keelin Wedge titled Dark and Amber Rosin.
