Four charged with drunk driving in Charlottetown
Four people are facing impaired driving charges after Charlottetown police responded to a rash of suspected impaired driving complaints since July 1.
In a July 7 release, Charlottetown Police Services said officers responded to 10 complaints of possible impaired drivers in the city in the first week of July. Four drivers have been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle resulting from complaints.
At 10 p.m. July 1, police stopped a vehicle on Gower Street, responding to a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Prince Street.
The driver, a 37-year-old man from Charlottetown, displayed signs of impairment at the time and was arrested and charged.
Police also charged two drivers on July 3. The first of those involved a complaint of a possible drunk driver on Grafton Street at 6:30 a.m. Police pulled over the vehicle, and the driver, a 46-year-old woman from Dieppe, N.B., showed signs of intoxication, police said. She was arrested and charged.
Later that day, police responded to a complaint at 2:30 p.m. of a possible drunk driver on the arterial highway. Police found and pulled over the vehicle, belonging to a 29-year-old Charlottetown man, on Mount Edward Road. The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested and charged, police said.
Just after midnight on July 7, police found a vehicle after a complaint of a possible drunk driver on Great George Street. The driver, a 21-yearold Charlottetown man, showed signs of impairment and was arrested and charged.
All four of those charged will appear in provincial court in Charlottetown at a later date, police said.
