Event in support of BIPOC USHR

-

A free community event – We All Grow Together Social – in support of the mission and activities of BIPOC USHR is set for July 11, 4-8 p.m., at the Hop Yard, 151 Kent St., Charlottetown.

Started as a small group on the UPEI campus in March 2019, BIPOC USHR (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour for United for Strength Home Relationships) aims to serve BIPOC communities on P.E.I. in ways that will enable them to thrive not just survive.

Lone Oak Brewery has donated a keg of its award-winning beer with $2 from each glass sold to be contributed to BIPOC USHR. A donation basket will also be available.

The Hop Yard has donated its space, and the event is sponsored by Nuwelcom, the free made-in-P.E.I. app that delivers publicly sourced reliable information in 12 languages.

We All Grow Together Social will also include the launch of Nuwelcom's new feature, Nu-TOC (Nuwelcom's Talks about Organizations in your Community). These short videos will introduce newcomers to the leaders of P.E.I. community organizations. Available in 12 languages, the interviews focus on the personal passion of the people leading the community organization and how it fuels its mission.

The event will also include the launch of KINLEY's award-winning song, We All Take Turns to Grow, which was produced and engineered by Colin Buchanan and co-written by KINLEY and Bahamian rap artist Xale (Alex Ferguson). Xale moved to P.E.I. from the Bahamas a few years ago, and his verse explores his experience transitioning from the Bahamas to P.E.I. Also featured is Tiffany Liu on the traditional Chinese pipa and Aaron Comeau, guitar and keyboard.

“This project was one of the coolest things I have ever been part of. I know that this app will grow and expand into many other cities and towns and I’m so happy to be even a small part of it,” said KINLEY.

Khalid Shami, co-CEO of Nuwelcom, said he is happy to sponsor this event to highlight the important work of BIPOC USHR.

The event is free, and all of Hopyards menu, beers and non-alcoholic beverages will be available throughout the evening.
