Speeding on the rise in Stratford

-

Speeding violations in Stratford are more than double in the first six months of 2021 compared the same time period last year.

RCMP statistics released at the July 14 town council meeting noted there were 75 speeding violations year-to-date in June compared to 31 in 2020. In fact, the 75 year-to-date violations in June were also significantly higher than the 23 reported in 2019 and 26 in 2018 over the first six months of those years.

The 13 impaired by alcohol driving offences as of June is trending lower than 2020 when 34 were reported in the first six months.

In June, the town had five reported motor vehicle collisions, including three with damage. Four occurred at the Route 1 (Trans-Canada Highway/ Stratford Road intersection) while the other was on the Georgetown Road. Police also responded to an assault call involving a person hit with a golf ball, but there was insufficient evidence to proceed with a charge, according to the report.
