Two P.E.I. teams played for bronze medals at 2022 Atlantic hockey championships on May 8.

The Eastern Express, who just missed out on advancing to the gold-medal game at the under-15 AAA event in Quispamsis, N.B., took on The Rangers from Nova Scotia in the thirdplace game.

At the under-13 AAA tournament in Summerside, the Mid-isle Matrix faced the Pictou County Crushers from Nova Scotia for third place.

The results of the bronzemedal games were unavaialble by deadline time.

The Express went a very respectable 2-0-2 (won-lostovertime losses) in the round robin.

Three of those four games went to overtime.

The Pownal-based Express finished in a three-way tie for first place with New Brunswick's Dieppe Flyers (3-1-0) and host Kennebecasis Valley Kings (3-1-0). Each team had seven points, but the Flyers and Kings advanced to the final based on tiebreaking procedures.

OVERTIME WINS

The Express defeated the Tricounty Thunder from Newfoundland and Labrador 4-2 and the Rangers from Nova Scotia 3-2 in overtime. The Dieppe Flyers edged the Express 2-1 in a shootout to close out the round robin. An Express win in that game would have sent Eastern to the gold-medal game.

Eastern's other loss – a 5-4 decision to Kennebecasis Valley – also came in extra time.

UNDER-13

The Matrix went 1-3-0 in the round robin at the under-13 tournament.

Mid-isle's victory – a 3-1 decision over the host Summerside Capitals (0-4-0) – punched its ticket to the bronze-medal game.

The Matrix's losses came to the Moncton Beavers (5-1), the Tricounty Thunder (7-0) and Pictou County (5-0).

Following are Summerside's other game results: Moncton 5, Summerside 3; Pictou County 4, Summerside 1, and Tricounty 10, Summerside 1.
