SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – A hit Australian tribute to British rock band Queen is coming to Summerside May 10 as part of a national tour.

Queen: It's a Kinda Magic will take the stage at the Harbourfront Theatre on May 10 after the initial tour was postponed in 2020 due to COVID-19. The Summerside performance will be the tribute show's sixth stop on a 36show countrywide tour from May to August.

Director and producer Johnny Van Grinsven said he has been pleasantly surprised by ticket sales for the Island show.

“It's been an unbelievably hard couple of years for our industry, and I thought it would take much longer for customer confidence to bounce back, but Canadians have been showing amazing support for the show, and now the cast is more excited than ever to get back on stage and put on a memorable show,” Van Grinsven said in a recent news release.

The show will be the first time since 2018 the band has played in Canada and the first with its new cast, including South African musician Dominic Warren. Performing as Freddie Mercury, Warren is tasked with performing Queen's biggest hits live on stage in their original key in up to six shows per week.

“I'm constantly studying Freddie – his mannerisms, his movements and his energy are super important, as well as the musicality of course… but there will only ever be one Freddie,” said Warren. “So, rather than trying to be him, I hope that Freddie's character will shine through in my performance and that we'll do justice to his musical legacy, for his fans.”
