McCUE (McCormack) , Helen Marie R.N.

With sadness we announce Helen Marie’s death in the Ottawa General Hospital on November 6, 2022. She is survived by her daughters, Michele and Andrea (Dave Daley); granddaughter, Q; brother, John McCormack (Marilyn) and sisters, Betsy Keenan (Ray) and Maureen Paquet (Alan); brother-in-law, Fabian O’Neil and sister-in-law, Isabell Carpenter McCormack. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as Maka and by her many cherished friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Ed; her parents, Annie and Leonard McCormack; her brother, Leonard McCormack and his wife Gail and her sister Carol Ann O’Neil. Helen Marie was born in Souris, P.E.I., and in keeping with her wishes, it will be her final resting place. She cherished her summers at her cottage in Souris River and couldn’t wait for the smell of salt air and a walk on Souris beach. She loved the Island and it’s people and always considered herself an Islander. Nursing was her calling and she was a true credit to the profession, graduating from the Charlottetown Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. A healing touch came naturally to her and she soothed so many throughout her lifetime with her kind, caring spirit and her gentle guidance. She was a gifted pianist and a world traveller, but her greatest pleasure came from the simple things like hearing the church bells each day, chatting with the homeless on her daily walks, sitting in her favourite chair by the window, watching the news and reading the morning paper - finishing off with the crossword puzzle. Her sense of style and creativity was widely admired, as well as her wise counsel when a challenge arose. She will be greatly missed and we will cherish her memory forever. Cremation has taken place. Her funeral celebration will take place at St. Mary’s Church in Souris, P.E.I., on November 19, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. with interment immediately following in St. Mary’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Mary’s cemetery fund or the Souris food bank would be appreciated
