Leclair, Stairs spark Tigers past Caps
Summerside makes trade with the Miramichi Timberwolves
SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – Olivier Leclair’s goaltending led the Campbellton Tigers to a 5-2 road win over the Summerside Western Capitals on Nov. 12.
Leclair stopped 40 of 42 shots as the Tigers defeated the Maritime Junior Hockey League-leading Capitals 5-2 before 1,208 fans at the Island Petroleum Energy Centre.
Forward Dawson Stairs, who played the second half of last season with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s (QMJHL) Charlottetown Islanders, scored twice, and added an assist to lead the Tigers, who improved to 10-5-0-1 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses). Peter Stanger (2) and Richard Connor (1-1) also scored while Jake Kyle (2), Justin David and Daniel Khatib earned helpers.
Sam Campbell and Trentyn Crane answered for the Caps (12-3-0-0). Max Chisholm and Sid Mcneill picked up assists.
Despite being outshot 17-6 in the opening period, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission and led 3-2 following 40 minutes.
Caps goaltender Chad Arsenault stopped 24 of 28 shots. Campbellton scored its fifth goal short-handed into an empty net.

The Capitals’ next game is on the road against the Miramichi Timberwolves (6-53-1) on Nov. 17.
TRADE
The Caps and Timberwolves completed a trade on Nov. 11. The Western Capitals receive forward Adam Pinksen, the MHL rights to defenceman Seamus Maceachern and forward Michael Arsenault and fourth- and fifth-round picks in 2023. Maceachern and Arsenault are from P.E.I.
The Timberwolves get goaltender Ryan Knight, the MHL rights to goaltender Jack Flanagan and a thirdround pick in 2024.
Pinksen, who made his debut with the Caps against Campbellton, had four goals and 10 points in 15 games with the Timberwolves this season.
Maceachern plays with the Kensington Wild in the New Brunswick/p.e.i. Major Under-18 Hockey League, and Arsenault is a member of the Mount Academy Saints’ under-18 varsity team.
In seven games with the Caps, Knight went 5-1-0-0 (won-lost-overtime lossesshootout losses) with a 3.06 goals-against average and an .877 save percentage.
Flanagan is playing with the Islanders.
