Ballum’s five points spark Vipers to win

Two Island Junior Hockey League teams had mixed results in interlocki­ng games with the New Brunswick Junior Hockey League on Nov. 11.

The Kensington Vipers improved to 4-1-0 (wonlost-overtime losses) with a 9-3 win over the Cap Pele Knights. The Sherwoodpa­rkdale Metros dropped a 7-3 decision to the Kent Koyotes.

At Credit Union Centre in Kensington, Brett Ballum recorded five point – one goal and four assists – to lead the Vipers. Luke Payne (21), Ryan Richards (2), Ethan Beaulieu (1-2), Duncan Picketts (1-1), Will Smith and Rankin Noye also dented the twine for Kensington, which received a pair of helpers from Jesse Blanchard.

Christian Greco (1-1), Remi Leblanc (1-1) and Simon Eagle answered for the Knights.

The Vipers built period leads of 2-0 and 6-2.

Winning goaltender Jonah Arbing stopped 13 shots as the Vipers outshot the Knights 38-16.

The Vipers host the Richibucto Rangers on Nov. 19 at 7:45 p.m.

KOYOTES 7 METROS 3

At the Cocagne Arena, Alex Ferguson (2-1), Alex Basque (2-1), Julien Leblanc (2-1) and Jeremie Caissie scored for the Koyotes, who received five assists from Joshua Brehault.

Shaul Mitton (2) and John Mackinnon countered for the Metros (4-2-0). Hunter Bradley collected a pair of assists.

The Metros led 2-1 after the first period, but four unanswered goals in the middle frame sent the Koyotes into the second intermissi­on ahead 5-2.

Overall, the Koyotes outshot the Metros 43-22. Winning goaltender Zach Leblanc stopped 19 shots while Matt Jelley made 36 saves for the Metros.

The Metros host the Moncton Vitos at the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottet­own on Nov. 16 at 8 p.m.
