Library programs available for all ages

For the youngest library visitors, there are plenty of regular weekly programs. On Wednesdays ages one to three and their caregivers can enjoy Toddler Time – stories, songs, rhymes and lots of movement. Ages three to five and accompanyi­ng grownups are invited to Family Storytime on Thursdays and Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. For the extra littles, the Wiggle Giggle Read program for up to 12 months is Thursdays at 2 p.m.

Looking ahead, on Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. there will be a thrilling puppet show immediatel­y followed by that day’s Family Storytime. Homework Help on Wednesdays, 3:30-5 p.m., will be available until Dec. 7. Every Thursday, 3-5 p.m., the VR headsets will be available for kids to try out in the Rotary Auditorium.

Monthly events include Yoga Stories for ages three to five on Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. which will include songs, stories and gentle stretches (bringing a towel or yoga mat is suggested). Craft Club for ages six to 12 is Dec. 5 at 6 p.m., and everyone will be making string art snowflakes. An exciting family event happens Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. as local performers present Tunes and Tall Tales. All ages are welcome.

Special events for teens (ages 13-18) include Lego Block party on Nov. 21 at 6:30, which will feature playing with Legos and eating snacks. In partnershi­p with Brilliant Labs, on Dec. 12 at 6:30 p.m. will be Hack your Hoodie. Registrati­on (and a hoodie) are required, so call 902-368-4642.

For adults, there are some monthly programs happening throughout the year. Bookin’ it: A Walking book club has its next meeting on Nov. 26 at 9:30 a.m. Crafternoo­n (for grownups) is Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. and will feature gnome ornaments. Call or drop in to register for any of these programs (902-368-4642). On the evening of Dec. 14 at 6 p.m., there will be Board Game Café. Bring a game or play one of the library’s.

On Dec. 15 at 2 p.m., seniors are welcome to drop in for the Senior’s Café. Refreshmen­ts will be served, and folks are encouraged to stay and chat. This program will run each month with different speakers and activities.

One-off informatio­n and fun sessions are also on the calendar. The library, in partnershi­p with UPEI, will be hosting an Indigenous Poetry night on Nov. 22, 7 p.m. Cannabis P.E.I. will be talking about different types of cannabis and their uses on Nov. 24 at 6:30 p.m. (ages 19+ only).

On Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. Renting P.E.I. will be presenting an informatio­n session on tenants’ rights and responsibi­lities.

People still have the rest of this month to finish their novel since November is Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month). The library will be offering writing space to budding novelists – Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. and Sundays at 1:30 p.m.
