Eastern Stars win in Montague

Halifax Western Capitals, Western Wind play one-goal game

Renee Chapman and Miah Lawlor sparked the offence for the Eastern Stars in Maritime Major Under-18 Female Hockey League action on Nov. 27.

Chapman scored two goals and added three assists for a five-point performanc­e, and Lawlor netted a pair of goals and chipped in with two assists in the Stars’ 11-1 victory over the Fundy Kraken at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre in Montague.

The Stars, who defeated the Kraken 15-0 on Nov. 26, sport a record of 4-7-3 (wonlost-tied).

Emily Gardiner (2-1), Emily Lutley (2), Brooke Walsh (1-1), Kali Macdonald, and Maggie Mullins also contribute­d goals for the Stars, who built period leads of 3-1 and 7-1. Other assists were credited to Jorja Hambly (2), Kayla Batchilder (2), Kailey Lutley (2), Cassie Gordon, Taylor Hunter, and Abby Dingwell.

Madyson Boyer answered for the Kraken (0-15-0).

Winning goaltender was Olivia Lowe.

The Stars return to action on Dec. 10 against the Kraken at the Qplex in Quispamsis, N.B., at 3:45 p.m.

WESTERN WIND

In other league action on Nov. 27 in Bedford, N.S., the Halifax Western Capitals built a 3-0 lead and held on to edge the Tyne Valley-based Western Wind 3-2.

Sophie Pomeroy (2-1) and Maggie Duck (1-1) scored for the Capitals (10-2-1). Samantha Taylor added two assists.

Annie-pier Morency scored both goals for the Wind (210-1). Chloe Gallant, Erin Rennie, and Isabelle Richards chipped in with helpers.

Grace Macnutt earned the goaltendin­g win. Jenay Spence tended goal for the Wind.

Western’s next game is at the Willie O’ree Sports Complex in Fredericto­n, N.B., on Dec. 3 against the Western Flames (4-7-1) at 6:30 p.m.
