• 27th annual Christmas Ceilidh is Dec. 4, 6:30 p.m., at St. Paul’s Hall, Route 17A, Sturgeon. Celebrate with the Sturgeon Ceilidh crew, as well as special guests Celtic harpist Jill Harris, step dancer Vanessa Bernard with Shirley Bernard, Evy Lou and Leith Mccarron and Santa. • A ceilidh is at Dunstaffna­ge School Centre on Dec. 4, 7 p.m., hosted by Road Masters Band with Ivor Price, Wayne Diamond, Theo Wiegers, Dave Moore. • Country Christmas comes to the Winsloe United Church Ceilidh on Dec 5. Jacinta Macdonald and Colleen Macphee will be presenting a Country Christmas Concert and joining them will be Judy Lowe, Dave Berrigan, Brian Knox and Brian Langille. Admission is $15 at the door with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. The church is wheelchair accessible.

• A special Christmas Ceilidh in the City will be held in the airconditi­oned comfort of the Jack Blanchard Centre, 7 Pond St., Charlottet­own, on Dec. 7 with guests Abbie Marie and Luka Hall. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $15 per person at the door. This is a fundraiser for Toys for Tots.

Concerts

• Island Jazz continues Dec. 1 at Baba’s Lounge, Charlottet­own as Grahame Rhodes leads an all-star jazz cast in the first ever Island Free Jazz Experiment this week, featuring Rhodes, trombone, Sean Ferris, keyboards, Sid Acharya, keyboards, and Chris Martell, bass. The first set, beginning at 8 p.m., is a full 50 minutes of free but focused jazz improv, and the second set is an open jam. Donations are at the door.

She’ll be sharing beloved classics, self-penned holiday songs and some rare gems. Maclellan will be accompanie­d on stage by special guest Tanya Davis and guitarist Nick Gauthier.

• Beneath Springhill: The Maurice Ruddick Story by Beau Dixon is at Watermark Theatre in North Rustico until Dec. 10, telling the story of Maurice Ruddick, “the singing miner,” an African-canadian who survived nine days undergroun­d during the historic Springhill mining disaster of 1958. • Street Food from Around the World is Dec. 10, 6:30-10 p.m., at The Mill in New Glasgow, to recognize World Human Rights Day and to help with fundraisin­g efforts by KARSI (Kensington and Area Refugee Sponsorshi­p Initiative). Auditions

• Auditions for this year's St. Patrick's play, The Maiden Aunt, by Jimmy Keary are Dec. 11, 1-3 p.m., at the Irish Hall on North River Road in Charlottet­own. • The Friends of Eptek Centre’s Lunchtime Film series runs from October to the end of April. The films, mostly travelogue­s, are screened on Thursdays at noon, with Dec. 1 featuring 15 Wanderers of the Deep: Dolphins (58 minutes) distribute­d by Reader’s Digest. There is no charge. • Christmas Craft Fair and Tea are at the Irish Hall, North River Road, Charlottet­own, Dec. 4, 1-4 p.m. Admission is $2, which includes a ticket to the door prize basket that contains an item from each of the vendors. Participan­ts can buy extra tickets. There will also be tea tables ($5) serving tea, coffee, sandwiches and home-baked sweets. • Island author Marlene Campbell brings together a new collection of nostalgic stories that recalls Christmas celebratio­ns of a different era, transporti­ng readers to the bygone days of rural Prince Edward Island.
