The Summerside D. Alex Macdonald Ford Western Capitals rallied from a threegoal deficit in the third period on Feb. 24 to sweep a pair of games in Nova Scotia.

The Capitals trailed the Yarmouth Mariners 3-0 after the first and second periods but rallied to tie the game on three goals in the first five minutes of the third period of the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) game.

Dominik Godin started the rally at the 53-second mark and tied the game at 5:01. Jonah Macdonald scored for the Caps at 1:22, and Blake Eastman capped the comeback scoring the only goal of the shootout in Round 5.

The Capitals, who blanked the Valley Wildcats 8-0 in Berwick, N.S., on Feb. 23, had a chance to win the game in the first minute of the five-minute overtime period, but Macdonald could not beat Yarmouth goaltender Thomas Fontaine on a penalty shot.

The win improved the Caps’ league-leading record to 33-5-3-6. The Caps maintained a six-point lead over the Edmundston Blizzard (3411-1-0) in the race for firstplace overall in the 12-team league. The Capitals have five regular-season games remaining and the Blizzard has six.

Before 1,373 fans in Yarmouth, N.S., Nathan Carter, Fabrice Bourgeois and Jerome Nadeau staked Yarmouth (2416-3-3) to a three-goal lead just past the 12-minute mark of the first period.

Trent Crane, with his 50th assist of the season, William Irvine, Lincoln Waugh and Connor Keough contributed helpers for the Capitals.

The Capitals outshot the Mariners 48-28 through regulation time and overtime. The Caps held 18-9, 18-4 and 6-2 advantages in the second, third and overtime periods.
