Traditional music/ jam sessions
• Home-grown Harmony, a ceilidh with Jo-anne Ford and Michael Buell, is Thursdays, with the next one Feb. 29, 7 p.m., upstairs in the Hambly room at Cavendish Wellness Centre, Montague. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Performers are Mary Lou Maclure, Marie Mcintyre, Michael O'connor and Kathy Vanasse. Tickets are $10 cash at the door. • Kitchen party is March 1, 8-10 p.m., at the Acadian Musical Village, Abram-village, featuring Dale Gaudet and Scott White. Admission is $5 for those 19 years and over. There is also a Chase the Ace draw at 9:15 p.m.
• Kitchen Party is at the Summerside Legion March 2, 2-5 p.m., featuring the Back in Tyme (Blair Coughlin, Peter Burke, George Macphee), playing classic country and old rock ’n’ roll. Admission is $5.

• Winsloe United Church Fundraising Ceilidh is March 3, 2 p.m. Host Jacinta Macdonald and the house band (Dave Berrigan, Judy Lowe, Brian Langille, Billy Matthews) welcome back the dynamic husband and wife duo, Ricky and Sandra Jones. There will be tea, coffee and cold drinks served at intermission. Admission is $15 at the door which opens at 1:30 p.m.
• A ceilidh is at Dunstaffnage School Centre on March 3, 7 p.m., hosted by Road Masters Band (Ivor Price, Wayne Diamond, Theo Wiegers, Dave Moore). Guest entertainers include Robert Cain, Tommy Kickham, Ray Cantelo and Leo Gallant. Admission is $10. There will be a door prize and a 50-50 draw. Concerts
• Island Jazz Thursdays at Baba’s Lounge in Charlottetown on Feb. 29, featuring the Island Jazz Quartet playing music to honour the leap year and other oddities. Dan Rowswell, sax, Jordan Taylor, guitar, Chris Martell, bass, and Mat Maceachern, drums, will play music by Lester Young, Parker, Miles, Ornette, Monk, Jimmy Dorsey, Brubeck, Paul Simon and Bowie. There are two sets with the first starting at 8 p.m. Donations are at the door with a $5 minimum.
• Beaconsfield Historic House, West Street, Charlottetown, is presenting a limited series of 10 concerts it the facility’s double drawing room. The next one on March 1, 6 p.m., features Vhikthør Vhølkhem. The fundraising event promises an intimate musical experience, with 15 tickets for each show. For tickets, visit peimuseum. ca. Proceeds directly support Beaconsfield Historic House in its work to preserve history and promote the arts in Charlottetown.
• Southbound - A Tribute to Carrie Underwood is at the Trailside Music Hall, Charlottetown, March 1, 8 p.m.
• Got Blues Matinee is two or three Saturdays a month, 2-4 p.m., at
The Salvador Dali Cafe, 155 Kent St., Charlottetown. Hosted by Got Blues (Chris Roumbanis and friends Reg Ballagh and Mike Robicheau, each week there is a special guest for the first set with the second set an electric blues jam. • UPEI'S Got Talent is March 2, 2-5 p.m., in the Performing Arts Centre on the UPEI campus, South Tower Residence, featuring UPEI students. There will be a panel of four judges to determine winners, and the audience will have a chance to vote for their favourite performance. There is no entry fee. For the audience, the event will also include a game to win prizes, a pop-up styled intermission featuring local and student-owned businesses and a live cake auction.
• Gizmo with Green Eyes and Witch Hands is at the Trailside Music Hall, Charlottetown, March 2, 8 p.m.
• Sunday Blues is 3-6 p.m. at Copper Bottom in Montague, a weekly jam hosted by Logan Richard and featuring a special guest for the first set (Joce Reyome on March 3). Others are invited to join in on the second set. There is free admission.
• P.E.I. bluegrass fundraising concert is March 3, 2 p.m., in the Carriage House at Beaconsfield Historic House, West Street, Charlottetown. Admission is $15. The concert will feature two new Island bluegrass bands, The Bad Hoss and Whitecap Drive.

• The Island Jubilee Old Time Radio Music Show continues its second season on March 10, 2 p.m., at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall, 140 Weymouth St., Charlottetown. • A dance is March 2 at Hillsboro Community Centre with music by Mike Mcgarry and friends. Dancing is 8-11 p.m. Special guest Judy Maclean will do a line dancing demonstration. Lunch will be served, and there’s a licensed bar. Admission is at the door.
• A dance is March 2, 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., at the Charlottetown Legion, 99 Pownal St., Charlottetown, with music by Roundabout.
Theatre/comedy/dance
• “Lupinder's Tent” is March 2-3, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Breadalbane Community Hall, 4023 Dixon Rd., as part of Radiant Rural Halls. Performed by Lily Falk and Franziska Glen and directed by Jane Wells, this interactive performance for young audiences six-plus relishes in the joy and mystery of all things miniature. Tickets are free but should be booked in advance at Event Brite. The experience is approximately 20 minutes long and can accommodate five to eight children or adults at a time.
• Rat Tales comedy night is at Baba’s Lounge in Charlottetown, March 4, 8 p.m.
• Encore dance launch show is March 10, 7 p.m., at the Scott Macaulay Performing Arts Centre, 619 Water St. East Summerside, featuring a new step-dancing group, whose members grew up performing and dancing all across the Island and Maritimes. The show will also have performances by Cameron Francis, Dominik Pineau, Megan Bergeron and Nick van Ouwerkerk.
• “Darcy and Jer: The No Refunds Tour” takes the stage March 12, 8 p.m., in the Sobey Family Theatre of Confederation Centre of the Arts.

Literary events/lectures
• Fred “Fiddler” Macdonald will present off-the-record P.E.I. sports stories on March 2, 1:30 p.m. (rescheduled from Feb. 24), at the Riverview Community Centre, Clyde River. The public lecture is the final one in the 2024 Clyde River History Lecture Series, which is hosted by the Clyde River History Society.
• Christine Higdon, writer, editor, graphic designer, rug hooker and intersectional feminist, will talk about her artistic practice and read from her new novel, “Gin, Turpentine, Pennyroyal, Rue,” at The Gallery Coffee Shop, Great George Street, Charlottetown, March 5, 7 p.m. Admission is free.
• The members of the Eptek Centre Book Club meet March 7, 7 p.m., to discuss “The Dutch House” by Ann Patchett. • Auditioning for Musical Theatre and Dance workshop is March 1, 7 p.m., in Studio 2 of Confederation Centre of the Arts. Participants are asked to bring a one-minute monologue, song or dance they are anticipating using for auditioning. For information, contact the box office.
Practices
• Carrying on the tradition of the Miscouche band, musicians and interested parties are meeting Wednesdays at Summerside Intermediate School (247 Central St., Summerside), 6:30 p.m. in the band room (look for signs). Art galleries/exhibits
• As part of the Sixty Days of Fame series, the Summerside Art Club has a new exhibit on display at the Lefurgey Cultural Centre. Members of the oldest art club in P.E.I. turned their attention to rural P.E.I. to create the exhibit, “A View From the Farm.” Rural landscape, architecture and animals are portrayed in the 35 works featuring a number of mediums. The exhibit runs to the end of March and can be viewed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Confederation Centre Art Gallery spring opening reception is March 9, 7 p.m., for The Sweet Spot to Jan 26; Donald Andrus: A Retrospective until May 19; Arctic Visions, Arctic Life until April 7, Gestures: Traces of Embodiment until April 14. There will also be a book launch of Andrus' “The Shape of Desire.” Books will be on sale, and the artist will be on hand to greet guests and sign copies. Also on display are Ronald Bloore, Paul Griffin, and Eleanor King in the Entrance Gallery and The Anne of Green Gables Manuscript: L.M. Montgomery and the Creation of Anne. • Eptek Art & Culture Centre features Oyster Art by Debbie Brady as its lobby exhibit in February. Brady’s artistic vision and specialized macro photography techniques uncover the never-before-seen abstract beauty hidden in small sections of an oyster shell. Of Growing Concern: 40 Years of Textile Creation Amid the Havoc of Climate Change, a retrospective of Jane Meredith Whitten’s creative practice experimenting with textiles in response to her surroundings, will be officially on display March 3 and will be accompanied by a series of basketry workshops and Makers Sessions. • Kings Playhouse Art Gallery has exhibits by Renee Laprise and Patricia Bourque. A Curated Collection of Art by Laprise features reproductions of paintings from the last five years. In addition to the reproductions, one of her original paintings, "Re-woven," will be included. This piece has enormous meaning to the artist, and she is excited to share it with a new audience. Patricia Bourque Photography: Wildlife of Epekwitk focuses on wildlife here in Epekwitk/p.e.i. The exhibits run until February.

• Bedeque Area Historical Museum in the William Callbeck Centre, 950 Callbeck St., Central Bedeque, is open Fridays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and by appointment. New exhibits are the Wendell Feener Clock Collection: Clocks of the Island, 1770 to 1960, P.E.I. and the Monarchy and George Uglow Pope of South India, Scholar of the Tamil Language. Continuing exhibits include the history of the Epekwitnewaq Mi’kmaq, the Acadian and Loyalist settlements of the Bedeque area, the Borden ferry service, Callbeck’s Country Store and many more.
