Donation for student wellness centre
Kent and Inger Scales contributing $100,000 to Thrive Campaign
The Holland College Foundation is getting a $100,000 financial boost for the ongoing construction of a student wellness centre in Charlottetown.
Kent Scales, chair of the Holland College Foundation board of directors, and his wife, Inger, have donated to the Thrive campaign for the redevelopment of the Prince of Wales Campus on Kent Street.
“I’ve had the privilege to be a part of this initiative from its inception, which is in response to the growing and changing needs of students,” said Kent.
“Establishing the centre is an opportunity to centralize, integrate, and expand current services, as well as incorporate new services and supports.”
The campaign is a $2.5-million initiative to match the government's contribution towards the $5.9-million renovation and expansion project.
The wellness centre will provide services to students at all campuses via satellite offerings, which include mental health support, a health clinic, academic services and career counselling.
Kent Scales joined of the Holland College Foundation’s board of directors in 2018 and has served as chair since 2020. He also served as chair of the Holland College board of governors from 2015 to 2017.
"We are extremely grateful for Kent’s leadership, and for the generous philanthropic support of he and Inger both," said Sandy MacDonald, president of Holland College. "Their gift will help us to broaden our student supports so that students thrive academically, while building the capacity to lead healthy, empowered, and productive lives."
