Islanders go winless in Quebec
The Charlottetown Islanders failed to pick up any points during a recent three-game road trip in Quebec.
The team was also outscored 17-5 in Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) games against the Blainville Armada (6-1 on Feb. 28), the Drummondville Voltigeurs (8-2 on March 1) and the Victoriaville Tigres (3-2, March 2).
The Islanders now 24-294-2 sit eighth in the Eastern Conference, seven points behind the Acadie-bathurst
Titan. The Islanders will look to snap their five-game losing streak March 6, as they travel to Cape Breton to take on the 31-26-1-2 Eagles.
Against the Armada, Will Shields got the Islanders off to a strong start as he scored his ninth of the season 51 seconds into the game. However, the Armada took control of the game, scoring six unanswered goals. Eliot Ogonowski (2), Jonathan Fauchon (1-2), Eliot Litalien (1-1), Mathis Cloutier and Olivier Metcalfe scored for the Armada as they went on to win 6-1.
In the opening period against the Voltigeurs, Drummondville outshot the Isles 15-8 and took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.
In the second period, Kyle Powers setup Cole Huckins, who scored his 15th goal of the season, to make it a 2-1 game. The Voltigeurs added two of their own, to make it a 4-1 game, when Islanders rookie forward Matthew Butler scored his eighth of the season to make it 4-2 heading to the third. In the third, Drummondville scored four unanswered goals for an 8-2 win. Justin Cote led the way recording a hat trick and assist for four points on the night.
The Islanders had their closest game of the road trip against the Victoriaville Tigres
(38-17-4-0) but lost 3-2. Owen Conrad set up Huckins for his 16th of the season, giving the Isles a 1-0 lead until the Tigres scored before the end of the first making it a 1-1 game. In the second period, the Tigres struck first, but with under two minutes left in the second, Marcus Kearsey picked up his 37th assist, setting up James Swan who scored his 10th to tie the game. Midway through the third, Alexis Bourque scored what would be the game-winner – his 16th of the year.
