CLARKE, Lisle Addington

After a long and courageous battle with a difficult diagnosis, Lisle left this world on Monday, March 11, 2024. Lisle is predeceased by his dear brother, Michael and is survived by his older brother, Hugh, his younger sister, Janet. Lisle is also survived by his loving partner, Danielle Sonier; her son, Peter (Caryla); his ex-wife, Georgina Schwartz; his sons, Duane Smith (Nakia), Edward Clarke (Amanda) and his daughter, Melanie Clarke (Blake); along with his five grandchildren, Harper, Kingston, Fletcher, Montague and Bodie. All of whom loved their Grandpa or Grandpapa Lisle very much.

Lisle Addington Clarke was born December 28, 1949, in Christ Church, Barbados to Sydney and Vera Clarke. Lisle fell in love with music at an early age, he started singing in his church choir with his brother Hugh often taking breaks in between early and late service to head down to a beach for a swim. Lisle’s Mom moved him and his siblings to Brooklyn, New York to be reunited with his beloved grandmother at the age of 13.

If you knew Lisle you knew three things; family came first, music was his passion, and critical thinking was imperative to understanding the world around you. Lisle continued to feed his passion for music while in New York where he and his brother Hugh started The Odd Four, the first of many bands they would go on to play in. Lisle’s lifelong passion for learning took him to the University of Brooklyn. There he studied economics, was introduced to people from all over the world, from different backgrounds, where Lisle credits his ability to debate - a skill he continued to use to his dying day.

Lisle moved to Antigonish, Nova Scotia in 1975, he went back to Brooklyn to finish his degree, only to return to Antigonish, where he met Georgy in 1976. He continued to play music with his brother in the Overland Band and while the names of the band’s changed over the years, Lisle and Hugh remained consistent on the bass guitar, and lead guitar respectively. They continued playing together until Lisle and his family moved to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in 1989 to work for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Lisle kept busy being involved and volunteering for different organizations and school committees, as well as the Kinsmens Club, the Y’s Men in Charlottetown, and coaching his daughter’s soccer teams.

Danielle and Lisle have enjoyed the last fifteen years together spending time in both Charlottetown and Florida, escaping the snow during the winter months, and returning North for the beautiful PEI summers and to spend time with family.

Lisle left peacefully, on his own terms, the way he wanted; surrounded by his friends and family in his beautiful backyard in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
