Watermark Theatre has announced the artistic team that will be working on its 2024 summer plays, “Same Time, Next Year” and “Misery.”

Local P.E.I. actors Rob Maclean and Cameron Macduffee will be joined by Halifax-based actor Jody Stevens in bringing the characters to life. They will be working with directors Robert Tsonos and Rahul Gandhi, set and costume designer Khushi Chavda and lighting designer Alison Crosby.

“We’ve put together an incredible group of artists this year”, says Tsonos, who is also the artistic director, “and I’m so pleased to give such great roles to two local actors.”

“Same Time, Next Year” by Bernard Slade will run from June 25 to Aug. 31 and will be directed by Tsonos. A one-night stand turns into a quarter-century affair in one of the most popular romantic comedies of all time. The Tony Award-winning play follows George and Doris’ clandestine weekend rendezvous over the course of 25 years. The starry-eyed lovers meet for an annual getaway of romance, honesty and hilarity against the backdrop of a rapidly changing world. Macduffee and Stevens star as the starry-eyed lovers.

“Misery,” adapted by William Goldman and based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel, will run from July 5 to Aug. 30 and will be directed by Gandhi.

In “Misery,” true life becomes stranger than fiction when an acclaimed romance novelist wakes up in the home of his “No. 1 fan." Rescued from a wintery car crash, Paul Sheldon finds himself incapacitated in the secluded home of Annie Wilkes, a seemingly kind nurse. When events take a nightmarish turn, the injured Sheldon realizes Wilkes has no intention of letting him leave. This spine-tingling stage adaptation traps the audience in the room with Sheldon as he must outsmart Wilkes if he hopes to escape. The tense cat-and-mouse game is gripping to the very end. Maclean and Stevens star as the novelist and his No. 1 fan.
