A 31-year-old Charlottetown man has been arrested and charged after allegedly forcing his way into one home and attempting to enter another overnight March 19.

Around 11:10 p.m., members of the Charlottetown police were called to an apartment on Water Street following reports that a woman in bed heard her balcony door open, went out to check the noise and saw an unknown man in her kitchen.

Officers were told the suspect did not approach the woman and instead left the apartment, stealing a winter jacket on his way out.

The victim was able to provide police with a good physical and clothing description of the man.

A few hours later, just after 1 a.m. on March 20, officers were called to a house on Sydney Street following reports of a man unknown to the homeowner standing on the deck of the house.

The suspect left the scene without entering the home, and home surveillance footage captured clear images of the suspect, helping police identify the man as the same suspect involved in the earlier break and enter.

Around 1:20 a.m., officers located and arrested the man on Prince Street. He was found to be wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet and probation services were able to confirm the man had been at the two crime scene locations.

The 31-year-old Charlottetown man has been charged with break and enter, trespass at night, two counts of breach of probation and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Police said the accused had more than 25 other unrelated charges pending before the courts at the time of his arrest and will appear in provincial court at a later date.
