Macdonald, Macpherson, Matthews take the stage for May 5 ceilidh
The Winsloe United Church fundraising ceilidh series continues May 5 starting at 2 p.m.
Host Jacinta Macdonald and the Winsloe United house band, consisting of Steve Perry, David Berrigan, Brian Langille, Billy Matthews and Judy Lowe, welcome special guests Lester Macpherson and drummer Billy Matthews.
Macpherson who hails from back of Cardigan, has been entertaining P.E.I. audiences for many years with his genuine, laid-back approach to classic country music by greats like Hank Williams, Hank Jr., Johnny Cash and many other music legends.
Known to many as P.E.I.'S country gentlemen, he has recorded nine albums, won four Music P.E.I. Awards and plays many benefit concerts, festivals and other charity events. Macpherson spent some time touring with O’brians Bus Tours to the U.S., including Nashville and the southern states.
He will be backed up by the fiddling of Perry and the rest of the Winsloe United house band. Perry hails from the Summerside area and has an impressive bio as a fiddle player. He has recorded several CDS and played with the likes of Tommy Hunter, Stomping Tom Connors, Harry Hibbs and country mega star Shania Twain.
Matthews had played with many bands in Ontario and P.E.I., He is the son of the late Neil Matthews, a well-known musician and owner of Matthews Music and has been with the house band since January as a fill-in drummer and vocalist. This will be his last show with the ceilidh.
The church is wheelchair accessible. Tea, coffee and cold drinks are served at intermission. Admission is $15 at the door which opens at 1:30 p.m.
