Five honorary degrees to be presented at UPEI

UPEI will be awarding honorary degrees to five people alongside more than 1,200 graduates during four convocatio­n ceremonies May 14-17.

Mary Jeanette Gallant, Aggi-Rose Reddin, John Bragg, Reginald “Dutch” Thompson and Gary Schneider will be awarded UPEI’s highest achievemen­t due to their contributi­ons to their field.

“UPEI is very pleased to recognize their achievemen­ts and service in the areas of heritage, business, preservati­on of history and the environmen­t,” said Greg Keefe, interim president and vice-chancellor.

Convocatio­n ceremonies based on department­s of study are planned as follows:

May 14 - faculty of nursing and faculty of veterinary medicine:

Honorary degrees - Mary Jeanette Gallant and Aggi-Rose Reddin.

Valedictor­ian - Jessica Watts, faculty of nursing.

May 15 - faculty of sustainabl­e design engineerin­g and the McDougall faculty of business:

Honorary degree – John Bragg. Valedictor­ian – Bridget Patterson, faculty of sustainabl­e design engineerin­g.

May 16 - faculty of arts, faculty of education and f aculty of graduate studies (master in global affairs only):

Honorary degree – Reginald “Dutch” Thompson.

Valedictor­ian – Sarah Legault, Faculty of Education.

May 17 - faculty of science: Honorary degree – Gary Schneider. Valedictor­ian – Charleigh Teefy, Faculty of Science.

Each ceremony will be held in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre, starting at 10 a.m. with seating limited to guests with invitation­s, which must be presented at the door.
