Five honorary degrees to be presented at UPEI
UPEI will be awarding honorary degrees to five people alongside more than 1,200 graduates during four convocation ceremonies May 14-17.
Mary Jeanette Gallant, Aggi-Rose Reddin, John Bragg, Reginald “Dutch” Thompson and Gary Schneider will be awarded UPEI’s highest achievement due to their contributions to their field.
“UPEI is very pleased to recognize their achievements and service in the areas of heritage, business, preservation of history and the environment,” said Greg Keefe, interim president and vice-chancellor.
Convocation ceremonies based on departments of study are planned as follows:
May 14 - faculty of nursing and faculty of veterinary medicine:
Honorary degrees - Mary Jeanette Gallant and Aggi-Rose Reddin.
Valedictorian - Jessica Watts, faculty of nursing.
May 15 - faculty of sustainable design engineering and the McDougall faculty of business:
Honorary degree – John Bragg. Valedictorian – Bridget Patterson, faculty of sustainable design engineering.
May 16 - faculty of arts, faculty of education and f aculty of graduate studies (master in global affairs only):
Honorary degree – Reginald “Dutch” Thompson.
Valedictorian – Sarah Legault, Faculty of Education.
May 17 - faculty of science: Honorary degree – Gary Schneider. Valedictorian – Charleigh Teefy, Faculty of Science.
Each ceremony will be held in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre, starting at 10 a.m. with seating limited to guests with invitations, which must be presented at the door.
