Welcome to the exciting roundup of events at the Charlottet­own Library Learning Centre at 97 Queen St. Anyone unable to visit can contact a local library (25 across the province) to see what’s on the schedules.

Congratula­tions to the authors who have been shortliste­d for the P.E.I. Book Awards. The awards ceremony is May 30, 6:30 p.m., and a limited number of free public tickets are available. See the P.E.I. government news website for the list of nominees and details.

Special storytimes coming up include Peace Love and Kindness Storytime on May 18 and World Ocean Day Storytime on June 8, both at 10:30 a.m. May 22 at 3:30 p.m., ages 10+ are invited to Making Music with Micro:bit, and June 1 at 1 p.m., author Alma Fullerton will be visiting for ages six to 12. It’s also not too late to sign up for family yoga on Sundays at 3:45 p.m. Call 902368-4642 to register.

Looking for a book club with a twist? May 21 and June 18 at 6 p.m., the library is hosting Book Lovers Talk Books. At this informal, conversati­on-style club, participan­ts can share what they’re reading right now and get recommenda­tions from other book lovers. On May 30 at 6 p.m., Silent Book Club will happen. Enjoy an hour of silent reading and then socialize (or not). If that sounds super fun, there will be another Afternoon Silent Book Club on June 2, 1:30 p.m.

Upcoming movies include the cult classic, “Ghost World,” May 27, 6 p.m., and afternoon movie club on June 4, 1 p.m. features “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.” Both are rated AA. Family Movie Night is June 3, 6 p.m., and features Pixar’s “Onward.”

Ongoing weekly programs for adults range from French conversati­on group at 4 p.m. on Mondays, to Fibre Arts Club on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and Scrabble Club, 5-8 p.m. Tech Help is Saturdays, 2-4 p.m., and Cricut Tech Help is available by appointmen­t by emailing charlottet­own@gov. pe.ca.

Starting in June, the library will be hosting EAL conversati­on circles with IRSA every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Upcoming game programs include Board Game Café on May 29 at 6 p.m. and Seniors’ Board Game Club on May 27 and June 10 at 1 p.m.

Special events include an artist talk and tour with Doug Dumas on May 23 at 5 p.m. Dumas will be discussing his featured exhibition at the library, Circulatio­ns.

On June 1 at 10 a.m. there will be a community clothing swap. No need to bring items to swap – just drop in for some necessitie­s or a wardrobe refresh.

Marie from the Women’s Institute will be in the house on June 5 at 2 p.m. to teach people how to reduce food waste at home.

Seniors Café is June 20, 1 p.m., featuring line dancing with Laura from Downstreet Dance.

For ages 13-18, drop in for Teen Time on May 26, 1 p.m., and learn the skill of needle felting. Nintendo Switch Meetup (ages 13+) is June 5 at 3:30 p.m. Bring controller­s, games and Switch or use those at the library.

Did you know the library has a games room with both Nintendo switch and X-box? There are also lots of board games and puzzles to borrow or play in the library.
