• Schooner Session with Mark Douglas and friends is Thursdays, 7 p.m., at the Old Triangle in Charlottet­own.

• Weekly Friday night ceilidhs are at the Seniors Circle Club in St. Peter’s Bay, 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5.

• Kitchen party is May 24, 8-10 p.m., at the Acadian Musical Village, Abram-village, featuring Kim Albert and Michael Arsenault. Admission is $5 for those 19 years and over. There is also a Chase the Ace draw at 9:15 p.m.

• Tip Er Back (Allan Betts, Clive Currie, Wade Murray with Darlene Bradley and guest fiddler Allison Giggey) will be featured in the ceilidh May 24 at the Irish Cultural Centre, 582 North River Rd., Charlottet­own. • High-energy kitchen party-style concert by Dahlia Ave Band is at Park Royal United Church May 25, 7 p.m. This four-piece female band rocks out on fiddles, piano, stepdancin­g and vocals featuring Old Time, Celtic and Acadian melodies. The featured artist is Jolee Patkai with local talent Marie Macintyre, Brenda Pollard, Diane Deagle, Barry Hogan, Frances Mcinnis, Willie Jamieson and others. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. There will be a 50-50 draw, with biscuits and jam served at intermissi­on. Admission is by donation for the hall renovation project.

• Sunday afternoon tune session is May 26, 2 p.m., at the Old Triangle in Charlottet­own with host Roy Johnstone. Players, dancers and listeners are welcome.

• Island Jazz Thursdays at Baba’s Lounge in Charlottet­own on May 23 features Teresa Doyle performing swing and Latin tunes, with some new original compositio­ns written in Mexico this winter, including her first song in Spanish. Doyle will perform with the Island Jazz Quartet: Dan Rowswell, sax; Jordan Taylor, guitar; Chris Martell bass; Mat Maceachern, drums. Two sets start at 8 p.m. Admission is by donation with a $10 minimum.

• Movies are coming up at the Charlottet­own Library Learning Centre. “Ghost World” is May 27 at 6 p.m., and the afternoon movie club on June 4, 1 p.m., features “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar.” Both movies are rated AA. Family Movie Night is June 3, 6 p.m., and features Pixar’s “Onward.”

Literary events

• “The Little Red Dress,” co-written by Julie Pellissier-lush and Julie Gagnon, will be launched May 31, 4:15-5 p.m., at the Carrefour de l’isle Saint-jean in Charlottet­own. This book aims to teach the sad reality of missing and murdered Indigenous women and two-spirited people. Written in a friendly and sensitive way, it is intended to create awareness among students and adults. This will be a tri language event with several special guests.

Practices

• The Queens County Fiddlers practise approximat­ely every second Thursday at the BIS Hall on North River Road in Charlottet­own. There’s a slow jam at 6:30 p.m. and a practice at 7:30 p.m. The group’s next practice is May 30. All are welcome – players and listeners.

• Carrying on the tradition of the Miscouche band, musicians and interested parties are meeting Wednesdays at Summerside Intermedia­te School (247 Central St., Summerside), 6:30 p.m. in the band room (look for signs). Workshops

• The River Clyde Pageant (July 25-28 and Aug. 1-4) is holding a free puppet ensemble workshop – training in ensemble-based puppetry and performanc­e with Franziska Glen and Laura Stinson – on the pageant site and at the outdoor studio in New Glasgow. Art galleries/exhibits

• The Time of Our Lives Seniors College Group Art Show and Sale featuring artwork of Seniors College students and instructor­s will be showcased at the Hilda Woolnough Gallery at The Guild in Charlottet­own until May 28. This is the 12th anniversar­y for this group show. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

• As part of the Sixty Days of Fame series at the Lefurgey Cultural Centre in Summerside, artist Shelia Forsyth presents a solo exhibit, Here and There: A Journey in Colour, that explores subjects and colours of beautiful places and spaces, from across P.E.I. and around the world, which have inspired her. It runs until May 31. The exhibit can be viewed, Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., free of charge. The centre is at 205 Prince St.
