Summer rec ends
Fun and structure for kids.
The time between the last bell in June to the first day of school in September can be an interesting time for kids and their parents.
The transition from one school year to the next can be a challenging time – a time that should be positive and active, and keep youth in the right frame of mind during their summer break.
The local summer recreation program in Port aux Basques seems to work very well towards these goals. This year’s Bruce II’s Summer Recreation Program recently finished again for this summer. The program was filled with a broad schedule of activities, including events and theme weeks that were second to none.
The playtime group ( 4- 6 years), as well as the summer sports group (7-12 years) gathered together at the Bruce II Sports Centre throughout each weekday to play, socialize and develop relationships. Activities including regular swimming and bowling, theme weeks such as Wizardry and Superhero week, a Giant Summer Sleepover in the rink, curling club, Friday Field trips all around the region, and a finale featuring a Bike and Scooter Rodeo had many of the kids wanting more.
As the saying goes, “all good things must come to an end,” and this year’s program has successfully completed another run to much laughter, fun times and even some goodbye tears. A tremendous job and effort by the Bruce II Sports Centre and its summer staff in keeping many local kids engaged and bringing many memories back to school to tell their teachers when school soon opens.
In the water and under the sun, kids in this year’s Summer Recreation Program had a lot of fun while off from school.
On land and playing in the park, many happy faces were on display this summer during events with the local summer program.
