Provincial plow tracker service expanded across island of Newfoundland
Motorists can now find out the current location of provincial plows anywhere on the island of Newfoundland.
As promised with the introduction of the Provincial Plow Tracker in December, the service has been expanded to include snow clearing equipment at all depots on the island portion of the province.
Initially, the service, which can be found online at www. roads.gov.nl.ca, was only available for the Avalon Peninsula and routes with overnight snow clearing.
According to a news release from the Department of Transportation and Works, coverage was added on March 9 to include Boat Harbour, Fogo, Grand Bank, La Scie, Port Rexton, Lewisporte, Amherst Cove, Baie Verte, Victoria Cove, Port aux Basques, Roddickton, Sop’s Arm, St. Anthony, Wild Cove, New World Island, Pool’s Cove, Victoria Cove, Burgeo, Black Brook and Abraham’s Cove.
“Having introduced the new plow tracker service this season, we are delighted to expand it to all depots on the island in its first year,” Transportation and Works Minister Steve Crocker said.
“It is a helpful tool for planning safe trips that complements defensive driving in winter conditions. As always, we remind motorists that the best way to stay safe while driving during the winter season is to slow down and drive to conditions.”
The department says it is continuing to work to expand the service to depots in the Labrador region.
