The N.L. cod fishery is worth the effort

The Gulf News (Port aux Basques) - - Editorial -

When they pass on it will be the end of an era because their children and grandchildren will have no other option but to leave this province for work — not because fishing wasn’t a good life but because there is no room for others to follow in their parents’ footsteps because our politicians have no interest in trying to rebuild our once great renewable resource. They are following in Joey Smallwood’s footsteps and allowing our great resource and our rural coastal communities to die.

The Liberal government under Premier Dwight Ball is willing to spend $34 million on an inquiry into Muskrat Falls, which will not prove anything. No one will get fired or punished and it won’t make our light bills any cheaper.

The fishery is not important enough for an inquiry.

Did I get my money’s worth by going to the Liberal Convention? No, but I did get the satisfaction of knowing at least I tried.
