Belanger Memorial recap of 2A Softball Provincials

The Gulf News (Port aux Basques) - - News - BY KAREN COLBOURNE

The boys softball team from Belanger Memorial travelled to Ferryland on the east coast for the 2A Softball Provincials on the weekend of Oct. 12.

Although they did not place in the medal round, they played very well against strong competition. Belanger won their first game against Cape John of LaScie 10- 1 but lost to Bay D’Espoir in their second game.

The third game had Belanger down by three runs against Tricentia and their momentum going wild with the bases loaded and only one out when the game was stopped due to the fact that it was getting dark and safety became a concern.

The game commenced the next day and it came down to the final out being a possible tying run at the plate that left Belander short of missing crossovers. The final score was 20-16 for Tricentia.

Congratulations to Riley Collier for receiving the most sportsmanship medal and to Cameron Collier for taking home the MVP award. Thanks to Baltimore School who hosted the tournament and teacher moderator Troy Seaward and coach Josh Colbourne. Parent volunteers were also recognized for driving over 10 hours and helped in ensuring everything was organized.
