Treat all tax evaders the same

-

RE: Wealthy in offshore tax evasion scheme

Once again we see the incestuous relationship between the people who govern us and the people who run big business. KPMG has enough influence in the Ottawa political arena to have its questionable movement of money forgiven and those who put their money into this tax avoidance scheme get off relatively scot-free. No penalties, no courts just give us the money, says Canada Revenue Agency. So if you owe $15,000 in back taxes you pay the back taxes only.

Contrast that with people duped by a small group of fraud artists. They too were trying to avoid taxes. Canada Revenue Agency says they should have known it was fraud and they will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. That means if you owe $15,000 in taxes, you may have to pay a fine of about $7,000. For some, that means bankruptcy.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he wants an inclusive, open and fair government. Well, Mr. Trudeau here is a chance to treat everybody fairly. Treat the KPMG scammers the same as you treat the average Canadian who is trying to save on their taxes, or conversely, treat the average Canadian tax avoider the same as the KPMG scammers, pay the back taxes and walk away from any charges.

Once again politicians demonstrate why they are held in contempt by so many. Bill Sullivan, Hamilton
