Alt-country star Ryan Adams joins Harvest Picnic
The sixth annual Harvest Picnic has added a third day to its August music festival at Christie Lake Conservation Area, headlined by American alt-country star Ryan Adams.
Adams, a native of North Carolina with multiple Grammy nominations and some 15 albums to his credit, will perform as part of an evening-only lineup on Friday, Aug. 26.
“Adams is one of the most dynamic, hardworking, songwriters and performers of our time,” Harvest Picnic producer, Jean-Paul Gauthier, said in the announcement. “We are grateful and extremely excited that he chose to perform at the Harvest Picnic for his only date in Ontario this summer.”
Adams started out in the ’90s with the alt-country band Whiskeytown, going solo in 2000. He has produced albums for Willie Nelson, Jenny Lewis, Fall Out Boy and Jesse Mallin, as well as collaborating with Norah Jones, America, Cowboy Junkies and Beth Orton.
In 2015, Adams scored a Top 10 Billboard hit with his critically acclaimed full-album cover of Taylor Swift’s “1989.”
Other performers included in the Aug. 26 date include Hamilton native Jeremy Fisher, and Juno-winning singer-songwriter Tomi Swick and Killjoys’ lead singer Mike Trebilcock.
The gates for the Aug. 26 show with Ryan Adams will open at 5 p.m., with the show starting at 6. Tickets go on sale for that date on Thursday, June 23, at 10 a.m., at Ticketfly.com, Picks and Sticks and Dr. Disc. Early bird tickets for Aug. 26 are $49.50 until July 24 when they rise to $59.50.
This year marks the first that the Harvest Picnic has expanded to encompass an entire weekend. On the five previous years, it has only been held on one day.
On Saturday, Aug. 27, the Picnic will also feature Jann Arden, the Jim Cuddy Band, Alan Doyle (of Great Big Sea), the Joel Plaskett Emergency, the Rheostatics and the Great Lake Swimmers.
On Sunday, Aug. 28, the festival will host Johnny Reid, Ian Tyson, Sylvia Tyson, Lori Yates, Autumn Hill, Lori Yates, JJ Shiplett, The Redhill Valleys and The Argyll Pipe and Drum Band.
Existing single day and two-day pass holders may purchase Friday tickets for an additional $45. Children, 10 and under, are admitted free while discounted tickets are available for youth ages 11 to 15.
The Christie Lake Conservation Area, an 830-acre park offering hiking, swimming and fishing, is located on Hwy. 5 in rural Dundas.
