Brian Avery, Al Purins and Harvey Sahker each had three hits, while Greg Stoddart produced two hits and four RBIs. Mike Pitoscia, Ian Robertson, John Ellis and Rod Currie collected two hits apiece for the Mariners. Ian Kelso went 3-for-3 to lead the Reds, while Joe De Faria and Brian Fraser each had two hits. Bert Schenk had two RBIs. Dean Webb’s Red Sox defeated Enzo Fazio’s Jays, 12-7. Bob Ishibashi’s Indians topped Wayne Jessop’s Pirates, 21-10. Corey Beaudoin lead the offensive with three hits and four RBIs. Also, Nick Caswell’s Yankees upended Steve Connor’s Cardinals, 19-9, led by Carlos Deschene’s big day at the plate, which included two doubles, three runs and three RBIs.

ROSELAWN LAWN BOWLING CLUB

Rusty Ruggles, Gail Shaw and Hedy Newman got a "Nine Ender". Each bowler has 3 bowls and this team got all 9 of their bowls closer to the "jack" than their opponents. IN THE SCRUM HAMILTON HORNETS RUGBY <bullet>Hornets women won 36-15 in Bruce in addition to U14s and Senior men’s seconds. Alize Spalding-Lawrence scored three tries, Michelle Lohbihier had two, Taralyn Schwering added one try and Cassidy Smith had three conversion­s. The women and U14s are undefeated! In Waterloo, only the seconds had a match. Gordon Sykstus was the lone point scorer in the first half, scoring a try and then the convert. He scored again in the second half and to tie the game and the Hornets went on a scoring frenzy, Aidan McGrath, Ben Losinger, Doug Potvin, Joe Hill, Byron Martines all scored tries. Will Redgate kicked one convert. Final score 37-15 for Hamilton. The U14s hosted North Halton with a 70-0 final score.

ON THE GREEN

Roselawn Lawnbowlin­g Club, team of Rusty Ruggles, Gail Shaw and Hedy Newman scored a rare event on June 13. Each team member got all three of their bowls closer to the “jack” than their opponents. This is called a “Nine Ender.” Roselawn will now send to the Ontario Lawn Bowls Associatio­n for a “Mr. Big Shot” pin for each member of that team.

On the final night, Mike Alexander, 203 average, started his first game with 10 strikes before a “ringing” tenpin for a 289, then 208 and 192 for a season-high 689 triple. Two weeks before Ron Colling, 195 average, also started with the first 10 before a high hit left up a pair of pins for a 288 and 695 (231, 288, 176). Season-high singles were recorded by John Giordano (277 for a 658), Corey Raymer (276 and 656), Angelo Floriani (253 and 646), Steve Johnson (246 for a 534) and Guy Gamache (212 for a season-high 569). Tony Palango was steady with 237, 204 and 231 for 672, and Ron Graham was plus 126 at 615 (233). Top team in Sunday Sports at Bowlerama Stoney Creek was only decided after a three-way playoff that gave way to a two-way playoff after a two-way tie between teams captained by C.J. Price and Gordie Howarth. The Price was right in the two-frame roll-off and joining C.J. as winners on the Timbits team were Maryann Price and Joel and Jackie Conron. Both captains were on top of their games on the last night as Howarth fired a season-high 690 (223, 240, 217) and Price scored a 559 (196). Also with season-high triples were Greg Potter 600 (214, 213), Sandra Guthrie 577 (205, 201), Donna Nantals 513 (191), Debbie Daoust 471 (165) and Rosilee Potter 384 (144). Veteran Service League at Skyway Lanes had to have a roll-off to declare the 2015-16 champions. Coming out on top for the second year in a row were the Steel City Slickers with Barb Roy, Don Fraser and Travis Fraser. Second place went to the Ford Racing duo of Pat Horton and Mike Ellis. After slipping below a 200 average with eight weeks left in the season, Mike Ellis performed at a 213 pace to claim high average at 203. The streak included triples of 734 (289), 665, 658 and 675 (247) on the last night. Second-high average belongs to Ed Margueratt at 196 helped by last-season triples of 659 (266) and 652 (237). Ellis also captured the high triple with his 734 and the high single with his 289 in which he started with 10 strikes before a seven pin stood upright. Margueratt’s 279 was second-high single and Horton’s 687 and 686 triples were next after the 734. For the women, Barb Roy rolled a 143 average, 203 single and 511 triple. Denise Margueratt tallied a 136 average, 180 single and 469 triple. Hamilton bowlers have won tournament­s in many foreign locations. Al Tone won in Las Vegas, Akron, London, Malaysia and Singapore; Connie Ward in Mexico; Bill Rowe Jr. in Las Vegas, Argentina, Switzerlan­d, the United Arab Emirates, Atlanta and Rochester; Don Schatz in Singapore; Catharine Schroeder in Cincinnati; Joe Ciach in Miami; and Connie and Abbi Powless in Texas. Rolling super singles were Bill Rowe Jr. (300 in Malaysia and 300 in Michigan), Ed Maurer (300 in Toronto), Joe Nardi (300 in Rochester), Terry Wira Sr. (300 in Cincinnati), Ryan Kloosterma­n (300 in Erie), Al Tone (299 in Rochester), Lionel Lewis Jr. (299s in Montreal, Buffalo and Port Huron, Mich.), Dave Custeau (298) and Andy Blagojevic (297) in Rochester, Bill Rowe Jr. (297 in Quebec City and 297 in Las Vegas), Don Wira (296 in Sarnia) and Craig Woodhouse (280 in Buffalo).
