Guns, drugs and cash found after police respond to Stoney Creek assault

The keen observatio­ns of uniformed patrol officers called to a domestic assault took a machine pistol and a kilo of coke off the street.

Officers responded to a report of a woman being assaulted inside a home in the Waterbridg­e Street and Dorchester Trail area of Stoney Creek at 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

When they arrived, officers ensured the safety of the woman, who did not require medical attention.

They also spotted drugs and parapherna­lia in plain view, says Hamilton Police Det. Sgt. Joe Stewart, whose vice and drugs unit was notified of suspected drug traffickin­g. A warrant was obtained and at 8 p.m., the home was searched.

Police seized: a kilogram of cocaine; a loaded Smith and Wesson .40 calibre handgun with extra rounds of ammunition; an unloaded 9 mm prohibited machine pistol with ammunition and a high capacity magazine; shotgun ammunition; two machines used to press cocaine; a digital scale; a small amount of marijuana; about $50,000 in Canadian cash; a money counting machine.

The drugs are worth more than $55,000, according to police.

Malamud Ibrahim, 35, of Stoney Creek is charged with: assault; forcible confinemen­t; possessing a restricted firearm with ammunition readily accessible; possession of an unloaded prohibited firearm; possession of a prohibited device; two counts of unauthoriz­ed possession of a firearm; two counts of possessing a firearm with defaced serial numbers; possession for the purpose of traffickin­g cocaine; possession of marijuana; proceeds of crime over $5,000; four counts of failing to comply with a recognizan­ce; two counts of careless storage of a firearm; careless storage of ammunition and four counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition or prohibited device.

Ibrahim was denied bail, according to police.
