Why should I pay for tree watering?

-

RE: Time to view trees as an investment (July 9)

Here we are in the middle of a very dry weather spell and the city and The Spectator are asking us to conserve on water usage. But on the other hand, they are asking the citizens to water newly planted trees. Why should I spend the money for water (and sewage) to keep the trees from dying? Especially when they increase the rates when we do conserve just to keep revenues at a certain level.

I would like to suggest that the city take a water truck with a driver and one student worker and fill it with water at their rate (much cheaper than what the homeowners pay) and have it go around town and water the trees. I’m sure the works department can afford to put two people on this job without affecting any of the other work that must be done around the city.
