Trio arrested in Burlington after boat theft attempt
Three people have been arrested after an attempted late-night boat theft in Burlington.
Just before 3 a.m. Monday, Halton Regional Police were called to Edinburgh Drive, in the area of Fairview and Brant streets, after a resident reported two men attempting to steal from his boat.
Officers searched the area and found a stolen car from Hamilton in a parking lot off Prospect Street nearby, with three people inside.
They were arrested and police say a search of the vehicle turned up several stolen licence plates, ownership documents and a purse. Police also located what they describe as “break-in tools” including vice grips and screwdrivers, as well as four grams of methamphetamine.
Jamie Alan Dawes, 39, of Hamilton, and Shawn Moriarity, 38, are charged with theft under $5,000, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, tampering with a vehicle identification number, and trespassing at night. Dawes is additionally charged with obstructing police. Moriarity is additionally charged with failing to comply with probation.
Justine O’Donnell, 27, is charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, tampering with a vehicle identification number, possession of methamphetamine, and failing to comply with probation.
