Double murder probe uncovers human remains at house

- LIZ MONTEIRO

WELLESLEY TOWNSHIP — Human remains have been found on the property where Linda and Cheyenne Daniel once lived.

The remains are connected to the double murder of the 47-year-old mother and her 13year-old daughter, say Waterloo Regional Police.

“We believe they are the remains of Linda and Cheyenne, but extensive analysis and examination of the remains needs to take place,” Insp. Mike Haffner said Tuesday.

The remains were found inside the twostorey house on Hessen Strasse Road where the mother and daughter lived, and also outside in the backyard, police said.

The remains have been removed and will be examined by the Centre of Forensic Sciences and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, both in Toronto.

Haffner said remains often refers to bones, but remains can also include blood.

Waterloo Regional Police and two forensic anthropologists from the Centre of Forensic Sciences were at the Wellesley Township home outside of St. Clements for almost a week conducting a dig and looking for evidence inside and outside of the house. Police erected a large tent in the backyard. Police say the investigation is finished and no further charges are expected but a search warrant allows them access to the property until Sept. 23. Police will guard the property until the end of the week.

Linda and Cheyenne Daniel were reported missing in December 2015 by family, but they were last seen in the area in July 2011.

Police have charged Glenn Kraemer Bauman, 43, Daniel’s former common-law spouse, with murder and causing an indignity to a body in the death of both mother and daughter. He returns to court on Sept. 16. On Aug. 19, Bauman was arrested in Valleyview, Alta., where he lived, and brought to Waterloo Region to face the charges.

Bauman, Daniel and her daughter had lived together at the Hessen Strasse home before the mother and daughter were last seen. They moved into the home in 2006.

Police had a 30-day search warrant at the house.

A couple who had been living at the house were forced out while police searched the premises and property.

Haffner said the house will be returned to the couple as it was before police took over the building and they will be able to move back in.
