They didn’t fly the coop — these finches were pinched.

Hamilton police are investigating after 34 rare birds were stolen from an Ancaster home.

A special backyard shed built specially to house exotic birds was broken into just before 11 a.m. Saturday morning at a home near Floresta Court and Oakley Court.

The suspects made off with quite a feathery haul, including two green singing finches, four gold breast finches, two blue gold finches, two yellow gold finches, four green backed gold finches and 12 “harder to acquire” Forbes tricolor parrot finches.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-546-4947 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
