NOT OWL BY HIMSELF

-

Lee Sundin with his trio of carved creatures recreated by 21year-old Binbrook woodcarver Matthew Kennedy. The work of art created from a 9-foot-tall ash tree stump, in the front yard of Sundin’s east Hamilton home, took Kennedy three days to create. The sculpture includes an owl, a squirrel and a cocker spaniel. Working with several different saws and a torch to create blackened, shaded areas, Kennedy finished the project with several layers of lacquer to project the piece from the weather. Sundin requested the cocker spaniel be added to the piece to represent his family’s favourite breed of dog, of which the family had several.
